Teaser Tuesday #1

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just flip through your current read to a random page -- or not -- and share two teaser quotes from somewhere on said page.
This is the first time I am participating in Teaser Tuesday and my quote will be taken from my current read, After the Rain by Renee Carlino.
Teaser #1:
"You know I care about her. I can't stop thinking about her and I want to be there for her." - page 173
Teaser #2:

"I've never done anything like this but I take it Caleb wasn't very nice to you, and well, you know, he wasn't nice to me either. I figured it was time to teach him a lesson."

"Are you my avenging my pride, sweetheart?" I winked and she smiled back.

"That's what us country girls do." - page 86

What teasers are you sharing this week?

Don't forget to tell me in the comments or on twitter; @TheTatteredPage. You can also use #AfterTheRain on twitter if you're reading it!

The Story:

Death has her in his clutches. She doesn't want him to let go.
Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she'd be forced to live forever in the one place she's always dreaded most: the Underworld. The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves.
But now her happiness -- and safety -- are threatened, all because the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: He revived a human soul.
If the balance between life and death isn't fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce's home back on earth will be wiped away. But there's only one way to restore order. Someone has to die.

My Review

AHH! This is the end . . . of the Abandon trilogy. *Le sigh*. The conclusion to the trilogy is bittersweet -- bitter because it is the end and sweet because I really enjoyed the story.

Tag Line:

Death is just getting warmed up. A storm is coming.

Opening Line:

In school they told us to follow the rules.

Plot:

The action and suspense in was just what the doctor ordered. In
Abandon readers were being introduced to the story, getting background information. In Underworld readers received a heavy dose of greek mythology with the Hades-Persephone and The Furies themes at work. But in Awaken readers are caught in the crosshairs as Pierce fights for John against The Furies who want to punish him for reviving a human soul. The balance between the realms are out of whack and Pierce must find a way to restore order which means one thing . . . Someone has to die.

As for the romance, it was amazing! The John-Pierce feels were on overload. Readers were lucky enough to see John and Pierce grow into each other and their relationship *and fans* thanked them for it. In Underworld they put in the fight to keep each other. Not to mention, the steamy scenes are just that, steamy and swoon-worthy.

All in all, if you are a sucker for Hades-Persephone retelling, the Abandon trilogy is definitely for you. Awaken  is a great blend of action, mystery and humor with a delectable dash of romance.

Character Breakdown:

Pierce Oliviera - In Awaken readers see Pierce truly come into her own. She is very take-charge and take no prisoners. In the previous books while I did not hate Pierce, there were times when she annoyed me with her stubborn, manipulative ways.

Cover Mania! #13

Being so drawn to this cover, I felt compelled to dedicate a post to it. Take a look:

I JUST CAN'T GET OVER THIS COVER. The cover for The Red Queen was beautiful and this cover for Glass Sword does not disappoint! Yet another example of why I unashamedly judge books by their covers. And look at that tag line: Kneel or bleed. Oo buddy, hope this book is one big bloodbath.

Overview:

If there's one thing Mare Barrow knows, it's that she's different.
Mare Barrow's blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.
The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: She is not the only one of her kind.
Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.
But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.
Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?
The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they've always known—and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul.
