Cover Reveal! Katie McGarry's Nowhere But Here

Hey Bookies! If you know anything about me, it's that Katie McGarry is one of my favorite authors. So, when I heard she has a new series, Thunder Road, coming out, I nearly lost my mind. Nowhere But Here is being pitched as West Side Story meets Sons of Anarchy . . . what more do you need to know? I cannot wait for Nowhere But Here to make it to print! I am nonstop praying to the book gods my contact at Harlequin will give me an ARC of my precious! *fingers crossed*
The Story:
An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible
Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.
Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.
No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas

Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: February 24, 2015
Pages: 352

The Story:

Rhiannon Thomas's dazzling debut novel is a spellbinding reimagining of what happens afterhappily ever after. Vividly imagined scenes of action, romance, and political intrigue are seamlessly woven together to reveal a richly created world… and Sleeping Beauty as she's never been seen before.
One hundred years after falling asleep, Princess Aurora wakes up to the kiss of a handsome prince and a broken kingdom that has been dreaming of her return. All the books say that she should be living happily ever after. But as Aurora understands all too well, the truth is nothing like the fairy tale.
Her family is long dead. Her "true love" is a kind stranger. And her whole life has been planned out by political foes while she slept.
As Aurora struggles to make sense of her new world, she begins to fear that the curse has left its mark on her, a fiery and dangerous thing that might be as wicked as the witch who once ensnared her. With her wedding day drawing near, Aurora must make the ultimate decision on how to save her kingdom: marry the prince or run.

Review : On The Fence by Kasie West

*Warning: This review may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.
PublisherHarperCollins Publishers
Publication date: 7/1/2014
Pages: 304
Source: ARC

The Story:
For sixteen-year-old Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, being raised by a single dad and three older brothers has its perks. She can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows—including her longtime neighbor and honorary fourth brother, Braden. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn't know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world of makeup, lacy skirts, and BeDazzlers. Even stranger, she's spending time with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pickup game.
To cope with the stress of faking her way through this new reality, Charlie seeks late-night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with Braden by the fence that separates them. But their Fence Chats can't solve Charlie's biggest problem: she's falling for Braden. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.
RatingTHREE GOLD STARS!!!!!

My Review

On The Fence is the definition of summer read. So much so that I wishes I had read it during the
summer. But I suppose it worked out perfectly, since being reminded of warmer weather in 7 degree frozen tundra of NYC was a gift.

In On The Fence , we follow Charlie Reynolds as she navigates through a new world of discovering womanhood and falling in love for the first time. Charlie is fierce, independent and clueless about being a girl . . .  let alone  She feels more at home with the boys and in the thick of sports.

Living with three older brothers and a single Dad doesn't make being a regular girl easy. Charlie grew up with roughhousing, gritty sports and "boyish" pranks being the norm. And she never questioned it until another speeding ticket and her father's punishment of her having to get a job makes her question it all.

After Charlie begins working at a clothing store where she is forced to experiment with "girly" clothes and makeup, her eyes open up the world beyond being the Tomboy. To make things even more interesting a guy, who is so different than the athletic ones she is used to being around, wants to do more than be her teammate. Is love in the cards for Charlie and the new guy?

A new love interest isn't the only thing keeping up Charlie late at night though. Charlie's mother died in a car crash when she was younger but nightmares of her death keep Charlie awake at night. Insert another guy, the boy next door, and a shared fence line. Charlie and Braden have known each other since she was four years old. But he has been holding a secret about her past that her mind blocks out. What will his deception mean for their friendship?

On The Fence is a quick, light read, perfect for a lounging on the beach.

Review : Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon

*Warning: This review may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

PublisherBlink
Publication date: 7/29/2014
Pages: 411
Source: Own

The Story:
Veronica doesn’t think she’s going crazy. But why can’t anyone else see the mysterious blond boy who keeps popping up wherever she goes?
When her best friend, Mackenna, invites her to spend the summer in Scotland, Veronica jumps at the opportunity to leave her complicated life behind for a few months. But the Scottish countryside holds other plans. Not only has the imaginary kilted boy followed her to Alloway, she and Mackenna uncover a strange set of rings and a very unnerving letter from Mackenna’s great aunt—and when the girls test the instructions Aunt Gracie left behind, they find themselves transported to a land that defies explanation.
Doon seems like a real-life fairy tale, complete with one prince who has eyes for Mackenna and another who looks suspiciously like the boy from Veronica’s daydreams. But Doon has a dark underbelly as well. The two girls could have everything they’ve longed for… or they could end up breaking an enchantment and find themselves trapped in a world that has become a nightmare.

My Review

So I have been obsessed with Scotland since last summer when I discovered Outlander. As it goes, I have been on the hunt for YA books that resemble Claire and Jamie's adventure. When I saw Doon on Instagram guess what I did right after . . . took my butt over to Amazon and put it on my Books I Dream About! Wishlist; Luckily, my Secret Santa choose it for me :) Low and behold, here we are!

The first thing that drew me into Doon, aside from the fact it is basically the YA version of Outlander, was the relationship between Veronica and MacKenna (the two protagonists). Their quirky, brainshare dynamic is the same I share with my own best friend, Tiff.

Doon is an adventure with two feisty girls who want more than what life has dictated for them and aren't afraid to go after it. Vee never felt like she belonged, like anyone cared about her and Kenna has bigger plans than letting a hot guy with a sexy Scottish accent keep her from her dreams of being a star on Broadway. Together they step out of their world into a hidden magical one, Doon.

Taken in by the palace, the best friends must prove the accusations of witchery are false while fending off the charms of Scottish princes. To make matters worse, they must uncover whom is the real Big Bad Witch whose powers threaten to destroy Doon. Will the girls succeed or will they fail watch as darkness consumes Doon?

If you love an adventure in Scotland filled with humor, mischief and hot guys, the Doon series is for you! Don't wait any longer, go and get your copies.

Character Breakdown:

Veronica -- As I mentioned above, Vee and Kenna's friendship reminds me of mine with my best friend. Having said that, I felt most relatable to Vee's character. She is a bookworm, feels like she doesn't belong in this world, fantasies about being the lead in a fairy tale, has a sense of humor only her best friend gets and loyal.

MacKenna -- First off, Kenna's character reminds me of my best friend. She is goofy, hates books, doesn't believe in fairy tales, and loyal. MacKenna is definitely my favorite character in Doon. I appreciate her humor and the fact that although she and a guy from another world are crazy about each other she doesn't let it hold her back from her dreams -- no matter how hard leaving him behind was.

"His eyes widened at the same moment I realized that I'd sniffed him. Fabulous. Now he would think I was some deranged girl who went around smelling people" (page 96).
