Meet the Author

“After the sort of introverted childhood you would expect from a writer, Liz earned a degree in Egyptology at Brown University and then promptly spent the next ten years producing video games. Finally she caved into fate and wrote Snow and Rx under the name Tracy Lynn, followed by The Nine Lives of Chloe King series under her real name, because by then the assassins hunting her were all dead. The Story:

The perfect blend of sweet romance and historical flavor, Wait for Me, from debut author Caroline Leech, brings a fresh new voice to a much-loved genre.
It’s 1945, and Lorna Anderson’s life on her father’s farm in Scotland consists of endless chores and rationing, knitting Red Cross scarves, and praying for an Allied victory. So when Paul Vogel, a German prisoner of war, is assigned as the new farmhand, Lorna is appalled. How can she possibly work alongside the enemy when her own brothers are risking their lives for their country?
But as Lorna reluctantly spends time with Paul, she feels herself changing. The more she learns about him—from his time fighting a war he doesn’t believe in, to his life back home in Germany—the more she sees the boy behind the soldier. Soon Lorna is battling her own warring heart. Loving Paul could mean losing her family and the life she’s always known. With tensions rising all around them, Lorna must decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice before the end of the war determines their fate.

My Review

As soon as I read the synopsis for Wait for Me, I had to read it!

Set in the 1940s, wartime Scotland, a young girl, Lorna, falls in love with a prisoner German soldier sent to her family's farm to work as a hand.

How does that not sounds enticing.

And I was not disappointed.

The plot was intriguing. As I aforementioned, teen girl and a German soldier reluctantly fall in love during wartime and must face adversity to be together. To be honest, Wait for Me is reminiscent of The Summer of My German Soldier. The placing was a tad slow but not so much so that it bored me. I still flew through the story.

The world-building was well-done. I was drawn into Lorna's world. However, while I was drawn into the story, I did not really feel the authenticity of Scotland. Moreover, I enjoyed leech's style of writing. While there was not much sexy or violence -- as I generally prefer--, Leech's writing was real, hearty, and sweet at times.

All in all, Wait for Me was a good read and recommend it to anyone looking for a historical YA romance.
